We had the chance to sit down with Teresa Wappel, Floor Supervisor at Tantone, and she shared with us how she feels about working at Tantone. They have taught me how to appreciate small things in life.
Q. How many years have you served people with developmental disabilities?
A. I have worked in this field since I was 22 so about 19 almost 20 years. I started with community integration then moved to a technology based program and then into independent employment. I spent many years in employment as an employment specialist. I worked for two and a half years in a medically fragile group home as well. So I guess I have a wide range of experience in all different aspects of the field.
Q. What is the biggest challenge you face in your position?
A. I think the biggest challenge I face is learning all the different personalities and abilities so that I can assist with them being as successful as possible.
Q. What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?
A. The most rewarding part of my job for me, is employee payday to see the expressions, the smiles, the glow of pride in their accomplishments.
Q. What is the one thing you want people to know about Developmental Connections?
A. I think I would want the community to know all of the different aspects of Developmental Connections and what all they have available to help serve the community.
Q. How are you personally touched by the work you do?
A. I am touched everyday by the people that I work with. They have taught me how to appreciate small things in life. To see the smiles and hear the laughter and high fives when we have completed our tasks makes very happy.
